Essential Tips for Men’s Skincare in the Great Outdoors


Whether you’re hitting the waves at a beach, shredding the slopes on a winter day, or just soaking up the sun in your backyard, taking care of your skin is crucial. Here are some essential tips to keep your skin healthy and protected while enjoying the great outdoors.

Understanding Ultraviolet Effects

The sun emits different levels of ultraviolet (UV) rays, which can impact your skin in various ways, from tanning to sunburn to skin cancer. UVA and UVB rays are the main types to be aware of. UVA rays, although lower in energy, make up the majority of the sun’s UV rays and can cause sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer. UVB rays have a higher energy level and can also lead to sunburn and skin cancer. It’s important to use a broad spectrum sunscreen to shield your skin from both types of UV rays.

Choosing the Right Sunscreen

When it comes to sunscreen, there are two main types: chemical and mineral. Chemical sunscreens absorb UV rays, while mineral sunscreens act as a physical barrier on the skin. Chemical sunscreens are usually water-resistant, while mineral sunscreens are ideal for sensitive skin. Opt for a sunscreen that suits your skin type and provides adequate protection.

Stay Hydrated

Spending time outdoors can deplete your body of water quickly, so it’s essential to stay hydrated. Aim to drink enough water to keep you feeling hydrated and energized. If plain water isn’t your thing, try alternatives like coconut water, tea, or watermelon to keep you refreshed while replenishing fluids.

Sunshine and Serotonin

Spending time outdoors can have a positive impact on your mental health, thanks to the sunshine. Sunshine boosts serotonin levels, which can improve mood and reduce the risk of depression. Make the most of the sun’s benefits by engaging in outdoor activities and soaking up some Vitamin D.
